ABOUT DANNY

Geelong business owner Danny Zavitsanos has always been a keen follower of thoroughbred and harness racing. Danny’s passion for the trots grew when he witnessed Golden Reign’s mighty win in the 1995 Inter Dominion at Addington in Christchurch.

Danny purchased his first pacer Jodila in 2010, he was ‘hooked’ on the sport and his ownership portfolio quickly grew.

With horses racing throughout Australia and New Zealand Danny reached a Harness Racing high in October 2017 being awarded the prestigious, VHRC’s Owner of the Year Award, however even with 117 winners he was yet to enjoy a Group 1 victory.

The Zavitsanos’ finally got their first taste of Group 1 glory in 2019 when Enhance Your Calm took out the New Zealand Harness Jewels followed by the Northern Trotting Derby.

Then there was Cruz Bromac, “there was just something about Cruz, I had to have him”, the bay gelding repaid his owners with many career highlights but none more memorable than winning the most prominent event on the harness racing calender, the New Zealand Trotting Cup in 2019.

On being handed the trophy Danny exclaimed “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie” and his love for the sport of Harness racing was cemented.

So it came as no surprise to his wife Joanna that when whispers of The Eureka, the world’s richest harness race, were being circulated he made it his business to be a part of it.

Being the only Victorian allocated a coveted slot for the next three years, Team Zav emerged.
